About

Santosha is an old farm house built in 1936.  We spent a year renovating her and making her more airy and light and upgrading the bathrooms and kitchen.  She is still a work in progress, but a beautiful space to relax and escape from the world.  It is our special place on this planet, and we hope that you can enjoy her as much as we do.

Santosha is located on a 1.5 acre beachfront property perched on top of the dunes.  We share a wall with our 4 closest neighbours, so the property is fenced in, but with direct access to the beach via our beach gate.

Accommodation

The main house consists of:

The main bedroom with a queen bed, and an en-suite bathroom with shower and bath.  There are French doors opening onto the large verandah. The main room has an aircon unit and a ceiling fan.

Second sea facing room with a king bed, and an en-suite bathroom with shower.  There are French doors opening onto the large verandah and a sea view from the bed. The beds can be converted into two singles with prior communication.

Third  bedroom with a queen bed, and an en-suite bathroom with shower.  The windows here face onto our back garden.

The fourth room in the house is connected to this room and has two single beds.  This room shares a bathroom with the third room.  These two rooms together are ideal for a family of four.

The cottage outside has a main bedroom with two single beds and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.  These beds can be converted to a King with prior approval, but only one bed can be converted to a king between this room and the second bedroom.

There is a second room in the cottage with a small tv area and a single bed. There is no DSTV, but you are able to log into your own Netflix account should you have one. Note that this is a place to disconnected and spend time relaxing in nature. If you want to be connected, this is probably not the place for you. The TV and the maintenance of it are not our priority.

There is a fully fitted kitchen with a gas stove, a scullery and pantry area.

All rooms have overhead fans.

All linen is provided, but please bring your own beach towels.

The living room has a functioning fireplace (please bring your own wood – also available at Mac Nicols Caravan Park in Bazley).  The dining area is open plan to the living area and can seat 10.

The large verandah has another table that seats 10, as well as outdoor furniture for whiling the days away watching the whales.

The large garden and lawn is available for your leisure.  We have some lawn games available at the house.  There is a wooden deck overlooking the ocean with a built-in braai.

There is a gate to the beach at the end of the garden with direct access to our very quiet and beautiful beach out front.

Electricity & Water

Our load shedding schedule can be found under Bazley Beach (2).  Note that we have a gas stovetop and rechargeable bulbs in most rooms.  We do not have a backup water system or an inverter, but do a have a small UPS for the internet which lasts 2-4 hours.

Pets

Pets are not allowed unless by prior agreement.  The property is not fenced off from our neighbours that share our community, and we do not accept any responsibility for the safety of visitors pets nor the pets or property of other owners that share our space.

Internet & connectivity

We have a fibre line to the house and wifi throughout most of the house.  We do have a small UPS that will allow the internet to work for approximately 4 hours during load shedding.  Please note that the phone signal in Bazley and around the house can generally be described as horrible, particularly doing load-shedding. You can usually find a signal on the deck.

About Bazley Beach

we are 20kms from the closest petrol station.  There is a Shell Ultra City on the N2 mid way from Durban to us.  The closest petrol stations are in Park Rynie and Scottburgh. There is a tiny shop and liquor store in the Bazley caravan park, and shops in Pennington (14kms), and Scottburgh (24kms).

There is a railway line between the beach and the house which is not operational at the moment.

The Caravan Park provide life guards during the summer holidays, Easter and most long weekends. The best swimming is to the right of the house, at the end of the rocks, at the beginning of the bay that goes to the South.  It is very gentle at low tide, and nice and full at high tide.  Sand banks move all the time, so depths and side wash changes by the day.

The rock pools are wonderful for children, and the rocks are full of sea life.  There is a local Parks Board patrol, so licences are necessary for the harvesting and collection of mussels and other sea life.

People often fish in front of the house around the rocks where there are gulleys.  The gulleys are easy to see at low tide.  Bazley is well known for fishing, and the bay is full of shad during the season.  Off the Ifafa river mouth, larger fish are often caught.

We surf at the sand banks in the bay towards the South of the house, but this varies by season and sand banks.  There is a private beach at Ndesingane on the north side of the Bazley village that has a sometimes excellent point break.  Permits are available for your use while you stay with us.  The swimming for kids is also excellent at this beach because it is so well-protected.

Golf Courses

There are many great golf courses near to Bazley.  Umdoni, and Selbourne, both just down the road in Pennington.  There are also a golf courses in Scottburgh, Port Shepstone, Southbroom, San Lameer, and the Wild Coast Sun.
